72 pages: This academic treatise on the timeline of the Old Testament is not the typical fare of unquestioning fundamentalists. The incredible lifetimes recorded in the Bible are presumed to be wrong, but in most cases recorded in half-years (Moses died at 120 Hebrew time units, meaning 60 summers plus 60 winters). Noah's flood is presumed to be the exaggerated account of a real flood caused by a 17th century BC volcanic eruption. That eruption, recorded in Greenland ice cores, resulted in a phenomenal growth surge in European tree rings. The date of the eruption is determined and used to anchor the Bible chronology going forward to Solomon's temple. Correcting the mistranslated Hebrew time unit allows a five-century long chronology from Noah to Moses in the Hebrew Book of Jubilees to be read to the year.Knowing where they belong in history, the Hebrew patriarchs are identified as ethnic Kassites from Babylonia, and their biographies are now placed in proper historical context. Noah’s flood was an inundation of lower Mesopotamia due to the Avellino eruption of Vesuvius. The exact date of that eruption, 1647 BC, is now derived from Hebrew records, as well as from ice core evidence and precisely dated tree rings. Abraham lived three centuries later, and was a Kassite military commander in Babylonia. When Babylonia was conquered by the Assyrian king Ashur-uballit, Abraham fled with a rebel Kassite army to the Egyptian territory of Canaan. There Abraham defected to the Egyptian army and guarded Egypt's eastern border against Assyrian aggression. Abraham's defeat of king Chedorlaomer (Gen.14:14) was a significant Egyptian victory in this border war. The promise to Abraham (first covenant) was the founding of a Hebrew governed kingdom, but it was a vassal kingdom. Abraham became ruler of a province of Egypt. The Lord with whom Abraham frequently conversed, was pharaoh Horemheb (1323-1295). Horemheb was a fellow Kassite immigrant who became Tutankhamun's army commander and later claimed the throne.Abraham, Isaac and Jacob ruled in Canaan as subordinates of the pharaohs of the 19th Egyptian Dynasty (ca. 13th century BC). Jacob's son Joseph is an unequivocal match to chancellor Bay of the late 19th Dynasty. The oppression of the Hebrews in Egypt was during the 20th Dynasty, after pharaohs friendly to the Hebrews had fallen from power. The Exodus came at the end of the 20th Dynasty, when Egypt was weak and Moses confronted the pharaoh of a crumbling empire. Within a century of the Exodus, Egyptian power had waned and the Hebrews rose to power under kings David and Solomon as an independent kingdom in Canaan, At that point, past subservience to Egypt was erased from the biographies of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob (though Joseph's rule over Egypt is proudly preserved). The biblical narrative is accurate enough to confirm that the Hebrew patriarchs were real, but they were not shepherds. They were shepherds of men - kings.
